Description :

The geographical perimeter of the laboratory extends from the Belgian border in the North East to the edge of the departments of Somme and Seine-Maritime to the South, i.e. about 200 km of coastline. This zone of activity structures the partnerships of the laboratory LER BL, notably for aspects of Observation & Surveillance as well as formal Expertise & Advice; research activites go well beyond this zone zone.

Research Themes :

The team LER-BL of the Ifremer Center "Manche - Mer du Nord" initiates and participates in projects or programmes at regional, national, european and international level, both through academic and industrial partnerships. The tem provides advice and expertise to local and central government as well private stakeholders.

 

Expertise :

Hydrology & biogeochemistry
Taxonomy & ecology of phytoplankton & zooplankton
Observation & surveillance  (hydrology, phytoplankton, zooplankton) by conventional methods and spatial and temporal high resolution methods (High Frequence Sampling, ZooScan, FlowCam/PhytoImage, spectral and hyperspectral fluorometry)

Staff implicated in Phycotox: 7 permanent staff (2 scientists & 5 technicians). The laboratory also hosts regularly contract staff and students (DUT, Master 1 & 2, PhD and post-doc).
